Docviser won the “Digital Transformation & AI in Healthcare” category at the Romanian Healthcare Awards 2026 with its project, “Closed-Loop Oncology: From Prescription to Bedside, Supported by AI”.

The project started with a concrete need: reducing risks and waiting times in one of the most sensitive medical processes, the administration of oncology treatments.

From a clinical need to an integrated digital workflow

It all began at Zalău County Emergency Hospital, alongside Dr. Alexandru Iliescu, oncologist and the hospital’s medical director, and Alexandru Lazăr, founder and CEO of Docviser. It was a collaboration that brought clinical experience and software development together to address a real need in oncology practice.

Together, the teams developed a digital workflow connecting protocol-based prescribing, dose calculation based on patient data, pharmacist validation, preparation, administration, and patient follow-up. Information moves between steps without being entered manually again, and every step is recorded, allowing treatment to be tracked from prescription to administration.

Integrating the robot into the treatment workflow

Closed-loop oncology: from prescription to robotic compounding to bedside, with AI

At Bistrița County Emergency Hospital, the project took an important step forward with the integration of Docviser with the KIRO Oncology robot for cytotoxic drug preparation, with the involvement of LumaMed. The integration has been operational since September 2025.

The prescription validated in Docviser is sent electronically to the robot. After preparation, the preparation report and lot numbers are transferred to the patient record, ensuring traceability through to the treatment prepared for administration. This connects prescribing, validation, and preparation in a single digital workflow, reducing manual information transfers between steps.

Measured results

The August 2025 multicentre report documented the platform’s scale and its results in process efficiency and safety:

  • 45,000+ treatments managed through the platform
  • 10,500 patients included in the evaluation
  • 35% less time spent at the treatment centre per session at Bistrița

At Bistrița, the average treatment session lasted 3 hours and 54 minutes, approximately 35% less than the roughly six-hour benchmark cited in international ASCO/JCO literature.

Between October 2024 and September 2026, the system processed 6,168 treatment cycles for 688 patients through the integrated workflow. During the same period, 174 prescriptions were stopped before preparation and corrected following checks related to dosage, renal function, allergies, or drug interactions.

Separately, official data from Zalău County Emergency Hospital show that the number of patients treated through the National Oncology Programme increased from 422 in 2020 to 478 in 2024, a rise of approximately 13%.

A project built together with medical teams

Docviser’s development has been shaped by collaboration with the doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and technical teams who understand the day-to-day challenges of hospital care. Their input helped adapt the solution to the real needs of the oncology treatment process.

Winning at the Romanian Healthcare Awards 2026 is an important milestone for everyone who contributed to this journey. The project continues to evolve, with the goal of making oncology treatment better coordinated, easier to track, and safer for patients.
